asker "Society has caused the problems" Not necessarily. For example, society doesnt make me starve myself or purge, its just my distorted body image. It could be society but t could be that people just have fucked up minds.

People didn’t purge when society did not care about beauty. Benjamin Franklin and Gouverneur Morris were ladies men in their day. Morris had a peg leg and was still in today’s terms, a pimp. Franklin was quite heavy but was valued sexually for his intellect. A society where things do not revolve around beauty, but instead revolve around things more important that that, do not see these issues.

If the people we see in every advertisement, every tv show, every magazine and every movie are skinny and this is seen as “beautiful”, there is going to be a connection between eating disorders and society.

Oh and body image is something that was invented in the last century. Sure, the idea of seeing one’s body has existed, but not since society told us we had to look a certain way did it ever matter. People with eating disorders have distorted body image because they are told every day by society that they are not good enough. Even though that this is completely false. Society is fucked up. Not you or anyone who believes that they’re not good enough. We’re forced to seek perfection, even though it is entirely unattainable.

I’m not trying to argue. I just want you to know that you’re not to blame for feeling the way you do. It’s not your fault that we’re forced to seek perfection through a slimmer waist, even at the expense of our health.
